To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if Her Majesty's Government will extend to the drainage division of the Department of Agriculture, Northern Ireland, the policy adopted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in 1985 of publishing details of the methodology for the cost-benefit appraisal of arterial land drainage schemes, and the requirement for arterial drainage authorities to make available summary details of cost-benefit appraisals of arterial drainage schemes to the public on request.

Details of the methodology now used for the cost benefit appraisal of arterial drainage schemes will be published by the Department of Agriculture for Northern Ireland early in 1988. The methodology is broadly similar to that already published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and deposited in the House of Commons Library on 9 July 1985. Summary details of cost benefit appraisals of future arterial drainage schemes will be made available to the public on request.
