To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will now designate Wythenshawe Hospital as the country's fourth heart transplant unit; and if he will make a statement about funding of the unit.

I refer the right hon. Member to my hon. Friend the Minister for Health's statement on allocations to health authorities on 16 December 1987, at columns 1093–94.The heart transplant programme at the Wythenshawe hospital will receive central funding of £183,000 in 1988–89, its first year of designation.
