To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many inmates have been charged with drug misuse and trafficking while in prison and have appeared before a prison governor or board of visitors, in each of the last three years.

In 1986 about 1,670 charges of possessing, delivering or receiving controlled drugs were dealt with by governors or boards of visitors in prison department establishments in England and Wales. Information for earlier years is not available.
