Environmentally Sensitive Areas

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proportion of agricultural land in the United Kingdom will be covered by environmentally sensitive areas when the second phase comes into operation.

It will not be possible to provide a definitive figure until the planned new areas in Scotland and Northern Ireland have been designated. The 12 per cent. areas covered by designated orders in England and Wales comprise 4 per cent. of the agricultural area of England and Wales.
