Advisory Committees

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list in the Official Report the names of his advisory committees, together with an indication of those whose members are required to sign a declaration under, or who have otherwise had drawn to their attention, the provisions of section 2 of the Official Secrets Act.

The advisory bodies to which I make appointments are listed in "Public Bodies 1987" which was recently published by the office of the Minister for the Civil Service. Comprehensive information of the kind requested is not readily available but I can tell the hon. Member that members of the following bodies are asked to sign a declaration in connection with the Official Secrets Act:

  • Boundary Commission for Scotland
  • Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland
  • Scottish Economic Council
  • Scottish Industrial Development Advisory Board
  • Secretary of State's Advisory Panel of Economic Consultants
Members of the following bodies have the Act drawn to their attention:

  • Parole Board for Scotland
  • Local Review Committees for Her Majesty's Prisons and Young Offenders Institutions
  • Visiting Committees to Detention Centres and Young Offenders Institutions
