To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the sum estimated to be spent on single payments in public expenditure projections in each of the last five years; and how much was so spent.

Estimates of expenditure on supplementary pensions and allowances were shown in the public expenditure White Papers for each of the last five years, copies of which are available in the Library. In the past, projections for single payments expenditure have not been separately identified. Infomation on single payment expenditure outturn figures were contained in my reply to the hon. Member of Cunninghame, North (Mr. Wilson) on 17 November, at column 526.
