To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what progress has been made with the Chinese Textile Mill inward investment project.

I understand that Nantong has withdrawn from the potential joint venture project with Tootal plc. The levels of assistance potentially available to the project have been confirmed to both partners and the Chinese have indicated their intention to continue to seek industrial and trade opportunities in Swansea.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales when WlNvest started negotiations with each of the Japanese companies which he recently announced as coming to Wales.

Initial contacts with these companies were made in August 1986, June 1987 and July 1987.
