To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will fund an expansion in the number of neighbourhood heating schemes, along the lines of the Heathwise in Glasgow; and if he will make a statement.

As my right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State for Energy announced on 9 April 1987, at columns 223–25, total Government support for community insulation projects in the United Kingdom in 1988–89 will be worth an estimated £55 million to £60 million. This represents an increase of up to 30 per cent. on 1987–88. The proportion of these resources coming to Scotland will not be known until the current consideration of bids for funding in 1988–89 is completed.
