To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement about current measures designed to improve safety on motorways.

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for Rugby and Kenilworth (Mr. Pawsey) on 9 November 1987 at column 81.

In addition, we are now reviewing further measures which could be taken to make motorways safer. My right hon. Friend expects to reach decisions by the spring.
