To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many teachers left the profession in each of the last five years on health grounds; and if any figures are available for those suffering mental stress.

The table gives the number of teachers in England and Wales granted retirement benefits under the Teachers' Supperannuation Regulations on the grounds of ill-health in each financial year since 1982.
