To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the latest figures available of the number of people returned into the community from mental illness and mental handicap institutions in (a) South Tyneside health authority area, (b) Northumbria health authority area and (c) nationally.

[holding answer 11 February 1988]: I am sorry I cannot give the hon. Member all the information he seeks as it is not centrally collected. An indication of the number of people who have been settled in the community after living in hospital is given in the table. Some of these people may have been readmitted since because of changes in their condition.
