To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many registered mental nurses are employed in Northumberland health authority; what was the number in 1979; and what has been the percentage change.

Such information as is available is shown in the table. Staff with the registered mental nurse qualification cannot be separately identified. The staff-in-post figures are for all state registered nurses employed in the mental illness area of work.Because of the 1982 NHS reorganisation, figures on a consistent basis are not centrally available for the years prior to 1982.
