To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what has been the national insurance contribution percentage apportioned to the National Health Service, the total money so apportioned each year, and the income per annum from chemists, dentists and opticians from National Health Service charges, from 1979 to the latest year the figures are available.

All figures are net of refunds of national insurance contributions. Figures for 1984–85, 1985–86 and 1986–87 are provisional: the figure for 1987–88 is an estimate provided by the Government Actuary.
