To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on changes in the charges levied on private hospitals for blood ordered from the blood transfusion service.

Guidance to health authorities on the handling charges for blood and its derivatives supplied to non-NHS hospitals is given in a "health notice" which is revised annually. This revision ensures that the handling charges continue to reflect the costs incurred.Handling charges to be levied from 1 April 1988 until 1 April 1989 will be published in a "health notice" currently in course of preparation.
