To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he intends to review the pensions of elderly war widows with a view to increasing the benefit to bring it into line with that for more recently widowed spouses of service men, and if he will make a statement.

Under the war pensions scheme administered by the Department the standard rate of war widows pensions is the same regardless of when the service man died. Differences in widows' pensions paid under the armed forces pensions scheme are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence.
