Maternity Pay Fund

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what plans the Government have for the maternity pay fund.

The Social Security Act 1986 provided for the introduction of statutory maternity pay from 6 April 1987 and for the assets and liabilities of the maternity pay fund to be transferred to the national insurance fund not later than 5 April 1988.The transfer took place on 31 January 1988, on which date the maternity pay fund ceased to exist. A statement of account showing the state of maternity pay fund at the date of transfer will be published in due course.
