To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what recent representations he has received from the Northern Ireland trade union movement about unemployment; and if he will make a statement.

In December 1987 I received a copy of the document "Making the Economy Work — An Alternative Development Strategy," published by the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union. Otherwise I have not received any representations from the trade unions on general economic issues since November 1986, although I am always ready to do so.
