To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what response he has given to representations from Professor Colin Blakemore, Wayneflete Professor of Physiology in Oxford, about harassment of scientists engaged in medical and ophthalmic research; and if he will make a statement.

We are aware of the campaign of harassment and intimidation against Professor Blakemore and his family. My right hon. Friend has made clear to Professor Blakemore that we believe all such activities to be disgraceful.
