To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will provide statistics on the number of shire counties providing increased support for bus services since deregulation and the total cost thereof.

Twenty shire counties have budgeted to spend on bus revenue support a total of about £5 million more (in cash terms) in 1987–88 than they did in 1985–86.The other counties have budgeted to spend in total £12·6 million less.
