To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what was the level of manufacturing investment in 1987 and in 1979.

The provisional estimate of investment in manufacturing industry, including leased assets, for 1987 is £7·4 billion at 1980 prices. The corresponding investment in 1979 and 1983 was £8·2 billion and £5·6 billion respectively at 1980 prices.
