Mr. Michael Brown
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans he has for increasing the training and administrative support of headmasters, in the light of their enhanced role under the Education Reform Bill.
Mrs. Rumbold
The Government support training in management for head teachers and other senior staff in schools with specific grant under the LEA training grant scheme. Grant at 70 per cent. will be payable in 1988–89 on £4·3 million of LEA expenditure. The Government are also providing grant in support of the production of various training materials and are consulting a range of organisations on the possibility of further measures to enhance management training for heads.
