To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give for each year in 1980 the number of Medical Research Council project grants approved but not funded.

My right hon. Friend understands from the Medical Research Council that the number of alpha graded research project grants awarded but unfunded since 1980 are as follows:
