Private Nursing Homes

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to monitor the growth of private nursing homes for the elderly and to inspect these homes at regular intervals.

Information is collected annually by the information and statistics division of the Common Services Agency for the Scottish Health Service on the number of private nursing home places in Scotland. The Nursing Homes Registration (Scotland) Act 1938 requires health boards to undertake regular inspections of private nursing homes.
