To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how he intends to increase further the emphasis on science and technology in schools and the relevance of education to the job market.

The Education Reform Bill proposes that science should be a core subject, and technology a foundation subject, in the national curriculum. My Department supports the many organisations which aim to increase the links between school and industry, and it is actively promoting the development of a coherent programme of careers education and guidance in schools.
