To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if, pursuant to his answer of 16 February to the hon. Member for Roxburgh and Berwickshire, Official Report, columns 555–56, he will provide the same information as to how many patients were residing in each special hospital who no longer required a secure environment, due to an inability to relocate them in National Health Service or local authority accommodation, at 4 January of each year since 1979.

The information provided in my reply to the hon. Member on 16 February at columns 555–56 was derived from current records. I regret that information for earlier periods is not held.
