Sir Trevor Skeet
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what weight he attaches to parental choice in deciding upon school closures; how he applied this criterion specifically in the case of the closure of the Pilgrim school, Bedford; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. Dunn
The Secretary of State's policy in respect of parental choice in the context of school reorganisation proposals is set out in DES circular 3/87. There was a substantial volume of representations both in objection to and support of the LEAs proposals in respect of Pilgrim school, and my right hon. Friend took account of this with other relevant facts and arguments in reaching his decision.
