To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what criteria he used in deciding to meet a delegation of hon. Members about the financial position of Salford health authority; what criteria the Minister for Health the right hon. Member for Braintree, (Mr. Newton), used in refusing to meet a delegation of hon. Members about the financial position of the South Manchester health authority; and if he will make a statement.

Such meetings are a matter for the judgment of individual departmental Ministers. In this case, the hon. Members refused an offer by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health and Social Security to meet them.
