To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give a regional breakdown of the number of people receiving payment under the enterprise allowance scheme.

The number of people receiving the enterprise allowance at the end of February 1988 is shown below, by region.

No. Demand is buoyant and £40 per week remains sufficient compensation for the loss of unemployment or supplementary benefit that occurs when an unemployed person starts up in business.
