To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the additional costs, apart from the running of an anonymised screening programme for pregnant women, of establishing a full counselling service for women found to have an HIV infection, assuming a full take-up of the scheme.

The cost of such counselling would depend on the number of women found to be infected, and the amount of counselling each needed. We do not have information on which to make estimates on either factor.
