To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will detail the number of place of safety orders taken out in respect of children and young persons during 1987, showing which authority took them out.
Statistics on children and young persons removed to a place of safety during the year ending 31 March 1987 are given for 87 local authorities in the provisional feedback "Children Removed to a Place of Safety, England, 1987", copies of which are available in the Library. Information subsequently received from a further 18 local authorities is shown in the table.These figures relate to cases where the local authority was responsible for the removal to a place of safety or where the local authority made provision for a child removed by the authority of some other person or body.
