To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what was the percentage share of the British domestic market for manufactured goods held by British manufacturers in 1979; and what was the percentage share held in 1987.

It is estimated that 73 per cent. of the United Kingdom home demand for manufactured goods was met by United Kingdom manufacturers in 1979. This compares with an estimate of 65 per cent. for the 12 months to September 1987, the latest period for which figures are available.
