To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has any proposals for making parents more aware of methods of fighting tooth decay in children; and if he will make fluoride tablets available free of charge on prescription for children where supplies are not fluoridated.

The White Paper on primary care "Promoting Better Health" indicated that the Government proposed to launch further incentives to promote dental awareness and regular attendance at the dentist. Discussions are taking place with the dental profession and the Health Education Authority on the implementation of this proposal. Fluoride tablets are available on prescription free of charge to children under the age of 16.
