To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has received any proposals from Yorkshire regional health authority for the merger of existing district health authorities; and if he will make a statement.

We have not received any such merger proposals from Yorkshire regional health authority. Proposals for the merger of Leeds Eastern and Leeds Western; Bradford and Airedale; and East Yorkshire and Hull health authorities were discussed by the authority at its meeting on 28 January 1988, but were rejected.
