To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what information he has about cases of companies in the European Community seeking to sell to the Republic of South Africa submarine propulsion technology; and if he will make a statement on what steps Her Majesty's Government are taking to prevent this.

It is not our practice to take up with other Governments allegations of breaches of the United Nations arms embargo on South Africa. This is properly a matter for the Security Council committee established under Security Council resolution 421 of 1977.
