To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prison daytime and evening education classes were held; what was the average number of prisoners in each class, and what was the total number of hours of education in the most recent convenient week, at each of the following prisons: Birmingham, Leeds, Pentonville, Manchester, Wandsworth, Wormwood Scrubs and Holloway; and if he will make a statement.

The information for the week commencing 14 March 1988 is as follows:where the level of overcrowding makes movement to classes very difficult, considerable work has been done on the development of learning packs for use in cell.
