To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what proportion of applications to industrial tribunals in each of the last three years for which figures are available have been subject to a pre-hearing assessment; in how many cases a warning as to costs was issued; and following such warning how many applications were withdrawn.
[pursuant to his reply, 7 March 1988, c. 37]: I regret that there were some errors in my original reply. The correct information should read as follows:
|12 months ending|
|31 December 1984||31 March 1986||31 March 1987|
|Proportion of applications subject to pre-hearing assessment (per cent.)||9·4||3·7||2·5|
|Number of costs warnings issued||1,266||672||517|
|Number of applications withdrawn or settled after costs warning||1,004||510||403|
