To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he and his Department have received from Councillor Sam Darby and the town clerk of Manchester in regard to social fund allocations for 1988–89; what reply he is making; if there is any action he will be taking; and if he will make a statement.

The Permanent Secretary of the Department and I have received letters dated 21 March from the town clerk, and Councillor Darby of Manchester city council, respectively. Replies will be sent shortly.
