To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to uphold the Gleneagles agreement by seeking to ensure that the planned World XV rugby tour to South Africa does not take place.

My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister confirmed the Government's continuing commitment to the Gleneagles agreement during Prime Minister's questions on 29 March. I welcome the efforts of English Rugby Union to discourage players from taking part in the projected tour.
