To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to ensure that departmental statistics will in future distinguish places in accommodation in an informal domestic environment providing long-stay patients with 24-hour medical and nursing supervision, in each district health authority.

Separate information has been collected centrally on small National Health Service units in the community for mentally handicapped people since 1984. At present there are no figures for such units for mentally ill people, but the need for separate data will be monitored in conjunction with the National Health Service.
