To ask the Secretary of State of Foreign Commonwealth Affairs if he has any information about the arrest of Ms. Susan Wescott, a British passport-holder, by the South African authorities on 8 May near Johannesburg; and if he will make a statement.

We are aware of the arrest, together with three other persons, of Mrs. Susan Donnelly (née Wescott) in South Africa on 8 May 1988. Her Majesty's consul at Johannesburg saw her on 16 May. No formal charges have yet been laid. Mrs. Donnelly's brother has engaged a lawyer to represent her.
