To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his statement of 16 May, Official Report, column 685, if he will specify the period of time for which he expects the Broadcasting Standards Council to be a non-statutory body.

We intend to introduce legislation for the Broadcasting Standards Council in due course, by which time I hope the council will have established satisfactory working arrangements with the relevant broadcasting and other agencies.
