Source: (for years 1978–79 to 1986–87) Health authorities' summarised accounts.

Notes:

1 Outturn expenditure figures for 1987–88 and 1988–89 are not yet available. True comparisons can only be drawn therefore between the years up to 1986–87.

2 Prior to 1st April 1982, when the health authority's predecessor health district formed part of Lancashire AHA, district expenditure figures were not collected centrally.

3 Cash limit incorporating all in—year adjustments.

4 Initial cash limit.

5 It is inappropriate to revalue district health authority expenditure by reference to centrally assessed movements in NHS pay and prices as the composition of that expenditure can differ substantially from the national average.
