Health Authorities (Costs)

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what percentage of Health Service costs in Trafford, Sheffield, North Lincolnshire, Wandsworth and West Lancashire health authorities is devoted to the administration of the local service; and what is the proportion of medical to non-medical staff in those health authorities.

Such information as is held centrally is in the table. The hon. Member may wish to contact the health authority chairmen concerned for the other details he seeks.

1 This excludes the cost of clerical and secretarial support staff employed in departments at hospital and unit levels. These costs are regarded as operational.

2 Includes permanent paid, honorary staff. Excludes senior registrars and consultants in non-teaching district health authorities and senior registrars in teaching districts as these staff have their contracts with regional health authorities.

3 Excludes nursing and midwifery agency staff.

4 Percentage calculated on un-rounded whole-time equivalents.

5 Indicates teaching district.
