To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the number of summonses issued and the number of prosecutions that have taken place for the non-payment of the general rate in each or the rating authorities for each year since 1983.

Information on the number of summonses issued by local authorities and the number leading to further enforcement action, is contained in the annual rate collection statistics published by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, copies of which are available in the Library.
