To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the names, together with details of previous occupations, of all health board general managers in Scotland.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what advice is given to health boards on the appointment of general managers; and what regulations apply to such appointments.

Advice to health boards on the appointments of general managers is contained in NHS circular 1985 (GEN)4 issued on 8 March 1985. A copy of the circular is in the Library of the House. This advice was issued for the initial appointments and central advertising is not undertaken for subsequent appointments. There are no statutory regulations applying to these appointments.
