Expenditure to date is of the order of £35 million comprising some £30 million net expenditure on CACS4, and £5 million spent on the new command system for the type 23 frigate.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received concerning the ordering of type 23 frigates.

Since tenders were invited for up to four type 23 frigates in October, meetings have been held with three groups of hon. Members, one of which included local trade union representatives, and to date we have received letters from 12 hon. Members and one letter from a regional council.In addition, I have replied to 12 questions in this House and the matter was raised during the debate on the Royal Navy on 3 March, at column 1242.
