To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the cost of producing the Home Office research unit's study of neighbourhood watch schemes by Professor Rosenbaum published on 16 May.

[holding answer 23 May 1988]: Professor Rosenbaum contributed a chapter to a book entitled "Communities and Crime Reduction." This followed his contribution at an open conference in 1986 on crime prevention. This book was produced by the Home Office research and planning unit and published by HMSO on 16 May. A copy has been placed in the Library. He was not paid a fee and the cost to the Home Office was nil.
