Mrs. Golding
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what controls there are over foods which claim to be slimming products.
Mr. Donald Thompson
The Food Labelling Regulations 1984 set out the conditions that must be met by any food that claims it is an aid to slimming. These include requirements for a nutrition statement on the label and that the food must be capable of contributing to weight control or weight reduction. The requirements also extend to the advertising of such products.
