To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services for each of the last three years for which figures are available, what was the number of lobotomies performed in Britain.

I am sorry I cannot give the hon. Member the information in the form she requested. The number of psychosurgical operations (including lobotomies—leucotomies) performed in neurosurgical units in England (including referrals from other parts of the British Isles) are as follows:
