To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what has been the annual change in spending on durable goods by pensioners in Britain since 1979.

The average spending of pensioner households on durable goods rose in real terms by two thirds, or 8ยท9 per cent. a year on average, between 1979 and 1985, the latest year for which figures are available.
